The Berenstain Bears and the Trouble With Grownups
Berenstain, S., & Berenstain, J. (1992). The Berenstain bears and the trouble with grownups. New York: Random House.
Recommended Age: 3+
Format: Softcover book
This story follows Brother and Sister bear as they have inevitable trouble with Mama and Papa. They get in trouble for talking on the phone, playing with their food, and not letting them know about a school activity. Brother and Sister decided with two of their friends to write a play and perform it at a school to show their parents the issues they have with them sometimes. Mama and Papa decide to give the cubs a taste of their own medicine the next day by dressing and acting like Sister and Brother. This book is good to show kids that they may have issues with their parents over some things, but it does not change the way that they feel about each other. It also has a great lesson of learning to put yourself in other people's shoes to understand what they are going through. It is kind of wordy, but it would make a great book to read to 3 year olds and older. The facial expressions on Brother, Sister, Mama, and Papa are fun for children to look at as well as the illustrations of the bears as they are imitating one another.
