This story follows Little Critter as he goes to the dentist for the first time. The story follows the real procedure that occurs when going to the dentist to get a checkup. This would be a perfect book to read to children before their first dentist checkup, or even subsequent dentist visits to prepare them. Many children will recognize the Little Critter character created by Mercer Mayer and feel more comfortable with the content. The illustrations of the dentist's office show a whole lot of fancy equipment this could prepare children for the equipment at the dentist's office. The story also calls the dentist's tools by names a child would use to describe them. For example, Little Critter gets X-rays of his teeth but he calls them pictures of his teeth, this explains the process in a way that is digestible for young children.
