Moo Moo, Brown Cow

Wood, J., & Bonner, R. (1991). Moo, moo, brown cow. New York, NY: Harcourt Brace & company.

Format: Board Book
Age: 1+

This board book follows a kitty who goes through the farm asking the animals if they have children. The question phrasing is the same, but the proper name of the child is used. For example, "Moo moo, brown cow, have you any calves? Yes kitty, yes kitty, one spotted calf." The way the kitty phrases the questions animals are associated with their sounds, their colors, and counting is also practiced. The repetitiveness or the question and response will hold the attention of a young child, and they will be learning as it is read. The board book version of this text is easy to handle by children. Some of the images are remarkably close to the background color and it may make it a little difficult for a small child to discern where the animal starts and the background begins, but for the most part that is not a problem.
