David Goes to School

Shannon, D. (2005). David goes to school. New York, NY: Scholastic.

Format: Hardcover

Recommended Age: 2+

This book follows David, a young boy, while he is at school.  It shows all the different rules he has to follow and the trouble he gets in by not following them. The text of the book is written in a way that makes it look as if it were written by a child on lined paper. The sentences are simple, and easy for new readers to read on their own, or for young children to follow along with. The illustrations many times look like they were drawn by a child but they are interesting to look at. At one point in the book David is standing with his legs crossed and his hand raised having to go to the bathroom, this illustration would be funny to young children. Overall this book is simple, funny, and interesting perfect for children 2 and up.
